Smooth
Smooth leather is the quietest surface we make. There is nothing to catch the light but the leather itself.
It is cowhide with a fine, even finish and a soft sheen rather than a shine. Nothing is added to distract from the line of the bag, so the shape has to be right.
That is why smooth leather appears in our most structured bags: the saddle flap of the Brise, the clean sides of the Havre Day. A crooked seam shows on this surface, and so does a good one.
You feel it straight away: supple and calm under the hand. Small natural marks can show on smooth leather. They are part of the hide and a sign that this is leather, not a printed copy.
Smooth leather starts refined and grows richer with use. Over the years the surface takes on a soft depth, the kind that makes a bag feel like yours.
Living with it
Living with smooth leather is simple. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth when it needs it. If it gets damp, let it dry on its own, away from heat. From time to time, a small amount of leather cream keeps the surface supple and the color even.
A smooth surface leaves nowhere to hide, so every line has to be right.
